Categories of Former Jehovah's Witnesses
by neverendingjourney ini was never disfellowshipped, but it's been about 10 years since i was an active jw.
i've made an occasional meeting or half-day at an assembly here or there, strictly at the behest of family (maybe once a year), but i'm completely disconnected.
more importantly, mentally i'm 100% free.. we all have a tendency to project our views and beliefs onto others, and tending to believe that other former jws share our views is no different.

Great thread. I find myself in the 3 rd category. I relate to everything there except for the fact that I don’t try to hide it. I also don’t bring it up unless the opportunity presents itself. But I do like to tell others about the crazy things they never knew about the dubbies and explain how they are a cult.

Can a publisher "drop out" and still be in good standing?
Yes. My mom was extremely shy and never wanted to be on stage. I’ve know plenty when I was in who refused to give talks or parts for TMS because of shyness and other reasons.

A child that DIDN'T want to die ... a blood experience you won't read in Awake! or on JW.ORG
by wannabefree inwhile doing work for a client in her office recently, we got into a light discussion about religion.
she knew i was one of jehovahs witnesses as our business relationship started while i was still a loyal and believing jw.
anyway, i said something that she knew didnt quite fit and she said ... i thought you were one of jehovahs witnesses ... i shared my story ... she felt comfortable to confide in me a story as to why, even though she has had dealings with jehovahs witnesses who she thinks are good people, she would never even consider listening to them about their religion.. i asked her if she would write it down for me so that i could share ... she agreed.. this is her experience.. .

True story or not, I’m sure this same or similar scenario has played out many times before.
I was born with complications, meconium in my lungs, I nearly died. There was a while where I didn’t receive enough oxygen. Best case, the doctors thought I might be a vegetable. My mom, a devout JW since 74’ signed documents refusing me blood. This was 83’. Luckily my dad a nonJW told the nurses/docs to lose the documents – throw them out, tear them up, whatever. My mom essentially signed my death certificate.
As pointed out perhaps the kid was “coached” to say one thing while he felt another. At any rate, I’m sure this has happened many times in the past and sadly probably still happens from time to time. The blood issue is the main reason why I found myself down the rabbit hole.
